Data Scope and Glossary

Info:

In May 2025 we introduced sectional times into Proform*

We enhanced the raw data to produce many new metrics and created out own par sectional times and finishing speed %'s.

The par times, which are adjusted for ground conditions, allow us to create upgrade figures in pounds for each runner in every section.

In turn this allows us to create pounds and lengths behind the winner and a theoretical actual finishing position!

We have created an excel document explaining all the data fields you can see in Proform, plus how far back the historical sectional data goes and the data tolerances we used to block obvious data errors coming into our database, you can download this on the following link:-

Downloading Sectional Data into Proform

Info:

If you have subscribed to sectional data in Proform* then you will notice in the title bar at the top left it says (SECTIONALS), like this:-

When you press the download button in Proform it will now also check for sectional data and if any is ready on our servers it will download and install it with progress information at the top of Proform, in green, like this:-

Sectional Counter

At the bottom of the button bar in Proform on the right there is a counter to show how much sectional data is store for each year.

2024 and earlier should stay the same count so you can check that against this screen shot above.

However some of the data can change or be fixed so we have created a log file so you can see what is downloaded each time the download button is pressed, more on this later.

If you can not see the sectional counter because your screen resolution is small, then you can click on the date at the top of the button bar and the counter will display over the buttons.

To see the buttons again, just close and re-open Profrom.

Log File

Every time you press the download button in Proform or it auto runs a login file is created in the folder C:\ProformP\Log

The log files have a date against them so you can see what is downloaded each date.

IMPORTANT

If you are exporting data, then it is important that you check these log files because we may have automatically updated sectional data for anytime in the past!

Exporter

Info:

In the exporter feature we have added the ability to export the sectional times and metrics and pars.

Checking and UnChecking Fields

Because there is a huges amount of fields to choose from we have added a Check and UnCheck facility to the top of the exporter.

You can enter any characters into the edit box above the sectionals exporter and then use the Check and UnCheck buttons to tick and until items in the sectionals exporter field list.

Choosing the Timeframe for the Data Export

You can use the Last x Days box to decide on how many days backwards you wish to export the sectional data or you can set this to 0 and use the start and end dates in the calendar boxes to determine the timeframe of the export.

Tick Saving

One set of field ticks are saved for the sectional export.  The software will remember the last set of field ticks you have setup.

Exporting Data

The sectionals exporter is independant to the main data exporter, which is on the left.

Becuase of this we have added the main fields you would need to link data to other exporters in what ever external tools you are using, namely, DateTime, Course, Horse Name, Horse Country of Breeding and Finishing Position.

When you export data using the Export Sectional Data button it WILL export races with or without sectional data.
This is so you could in theory select todays date, set Last x Days to zero and tick some LTO sectional fields, thus allowing you to export todays runners and see their LTO sectionals.
Also by allowing the exporter to export races with or without sectionals, will mean it is easier to marry up exports from normally exporter.

Auto Export

You can setup auto exporting of this data by ticking the auto export ON/OFF tickbox under the Export Sectional Data button and setting the time in the edit box next to it.

Leave Proform and the exporter screen open if you are auto exporting.

When viewing horse form or prior form tabs in the form book you can see some top line sectional metrics, like this

LbsAU - Pounds (LBS) behind winner after upgrade

LenAU - Lengths behind winner after upgrade

ChLen - This is difference between the actual lengths beaten and the lengths after applying the upgrade lengths

PosAU - This is the theoretical finishing position after applying the upgrade

ChPos -This is the difference between the actual finishing position and the theoretical finishing position

LTO_MaxU - Last Time Out - Max upgrade from last 4f, which is how many pounds they could have improved by running the section more efficiently (pounds)

LTO_LbsAU - Last Time Out - Pounds (LBS) behind winner after upgrade

LTO_LenAU - Last Time Out - Lengths behind winner after upgrade

How long after a race does Sectional Data arrive?

Info:

Typically TPD (where we get the raw data) process the sectional data withing a couple of days after the race.

We then process this and you should normally see the data arrive in Proform with three days after the race was run.

On a weekend (Friday-Sunday) the data data may not arrive until the following Monday to Wednesay.

Sometimes races will be delayed by TPD for checking and could take more than three days to arrive.

When you download data into Proform it automatically checks for any new sectional data and will seamlessly install it.

You can check to see if data is in by looking at the sectional field on the calendar screen which will show YES when the data is in and NO when not, like this:-
