5 things you didn’t know about Chester Vase Day

May 7th, 2013

It's ladies day at Chester and we have 5 things you didn't know about this day.

Vase Draw

Horses drawn in stalls 1 or 2 have won 11 of the last 16 renewals of the Chester Vase.  That is from just 32 runners from those two stalls.  If you had put a £1 on all 32 of them you would be in profit to the tune of £36 to SP.  These 11 winners are way in front on the expected 6 winners, which equates to 86% better than expectations.

Galileo

The sire Galileo's progeny have won 2 Chester Vase's from just 6 runners with one other placing.  Although we have little statistical evidence this does stand out among the rest of the sires records in the last 16 renewals.

A P O'Brien

Aidan O'Brien's record in the Chester Vase is second to none with 3 winners from 9 runners with a further 2 of those 6 runners placing.  One runner this year in Ruler Of The World, who also happens to be out of the sire Galileo, see above statistic.

4yo in the Huxley Stakes

As the title suggests 4 year olds do best in the Huxley Stakes winning 9 of the 14 renewals of this race.  That is from just 36 runners and represents a 37% better than expected record.  You could have made a small profit of £5 backing them all at SP.

Three Week Break

Horses with a recent run do well in the Huxley Stakes with 9 of the 14 winners running off the back of a run in the last 3 weeks.  This is from 42 runners and is a 21.5% strike rate for a small profit at SP.  It is 29% above expectations.

We used the Proform Professional Horse Racing Software to produce the statistics above and we could have listed 25 rather than just 5 for this short piece.
