Which horses are well handicapped in the Greatwood Gold Cup?

February 27th, 2015

In this post we highlight some of the unique aspects of our race cards and demonstrate how you can use their time saving features to give you that all important betting edge.

Today, our focus is on the Grade 3 Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury (15:35).

You may not agree with their efforts, but we should recognise the work of evaluating the varying abilities of each horse has already been done by the official handicapper.

They are the ones who are carefully watching how each horse performs and will assess them accordingly.

How to identify well handicapped horses in the Race Guides.

Within our racecard, we visualise BHA ratings as shown in the highlighted image below.

The data bars in the image indicate whether a horse is well handicapped against its official rating (OR) in a handicap of the same race type.

If today’s OR is higher than horse’s highest winning OR (HiOR) the chart indicates Red. If today’s OR Is below the horses highest winning OR (HiOR) the chart indicates Green.

In a blink of an eye we can see that all horses running in this race are running above (and in some cases well above) winning handicap marks suggesting a competitive race.

Just think about the amount of time and effort required to gather this data for every horse by trawling through the formbook!

How can we use this information?

The table above is ordered by our excellent Proform Power Ratings which are the same as those used in our horse racing software.

The area highlighted in yellow lists the latest form for today’s code (in brackets) so you don’t have to separate Hurdle form from Chase form unlike other racing publications.

Because wins (1) are highlighted in blue, we can quickly focus on the top rated horses with good recent form (or horses that have placed) as candidates for your shortlist and use the other features in our race guides to refine this list further by identifying positive and negative factors.
